Answering the Call

“If a person has had the sense of ‘the Call’ – the feeling that there’s an adventure for him — and they don’t follow that, but remain in society because it’s safe and secure, then life dries up.

If you have the guts to follow the risk, however, life opens up all along the line. I’m not superstitious, but I do believe in spiritual magic, you might say. If one follows what I call one’s bliss — the thing that really gets you deep in your gut and that you feel is your life – doors will open up.” Joseph Campbell Continue reading Answering the Call

THIS IS AFRICA. THIS IS LIFE.

THIS IS AFRICA. THIS IS LIFE.

TIA…This is Africa.  If you haven’t heard the acronym and saying, then you’re hearing it now, and let me tell you, it’s the perfect supposition for the experiences potentiated there.
Just like TIA, the phrase of accepting and embracing the learning and growth opportunities presented in Africa, I was faced with TIL:  This is Life, accept and embrace.  This is life, which winds and bends, throws curve balls, and acclimates you to the sides of yourself requiring cleansing and renewal.  Continue reading THIS IS AFRICA. The Cashmere Diaries.                       London:  Literary Legacy

The Cashmere Diaries.   London:  Literary Legacy

Maybe I was crazy to leave the Mallorcan life I loved so much and relocate to London. I had to trade in my sundresses for cashmere.  It was time for CHANGE.  A new season was upon me.
“Dude, you’re in London!” I was vibrating in the legacies of my literary heroes.  The ones impacting me most during my university days.  Those whom gave voice to the awarenesses simmering within me, shaping thought forms with inspiring prose.  Molding me.  Most notably Virginia Woolf, D.H. Lawrence, James Joyce, William Butler Yeats, T.S. Eliot.  Continue reading The Cashmere Diaries.   London:  Literary Legacy

Starry-eyed in Amalfi Coast:   Gold Silver and Sapphire

Starry-eyed in Amalfi Coast:  Gold Silver and Sapphire

The Amalfi Coast, had been on my radar for as long as I can remember. It was one of those starry-eyed visions that rests in that pocket of my mind where unattainable places lie dormant and glittering. I was ready to dip my toes into the Italian culture and create inspired meals based off its influence.  Here I would drown out the disappointing stain of Italian American food from my memory once and for all.  We would be setting sail from Palma to Napoli for a three-day crossing. Ode to Mallorca Part II:  Calas and Sea-creaturing. The Blue Factor

Ode to Mallorca Part II:  Calas and Sea-creaturing. The Blue Factor

It is said that people who live near the water are the happiest.  It’s called the Blue Factor.  Infusion with coastal living is linked to better physical and mental well-being.  Although this could be a generalization and every body is uniquely inclined, I have found for myself that throughout my life I’m happiest when I’m living by the water.  Thriving, is more like it; and land-bound feels a bit like suffocation.  I had to face the facts:  I was a mermaid.  Continue reading Ode to Mallorca Part II:  Calas and Sea-creaturing. French Riviera~  Provisioning and Frolicking in the Côte d’Azur

French Riviera~  Provisioning and Frolicking in the Côte d’Azur

I woke up early that morning as the sun was rising, before guests had risen, before the dogs, and snuck to the aft swim platform to do my yoga and meditation session.  The morning was serene.  The water so calm it looked like glass, and looking out south, the sky bled into the sea like one giant mirror.  You could not tell sky from sea.  Keep tracing the horizon and your eyes land upon the lovely city tucked into the mountain.  Charming houses, hotels, and restaurants all in shades of whites, and peaches, topped with terracotta roofs.  The sun’s morning rays cast a golden glow against the landscape, glazing it like one giant welcome apricot macaroon I wanted to sink my teeth into.   Continue reading French Riviera~  Provisioning and Frolicking in the Côte d’Azur
